“I would love to get some new art, but I have no space on my walls.” Walls? Who needs walls? Well, besides to, you know, hold up the ceiling and protect you from the elements. What I mean is, why does art have to only go on walls? If you have no room for new art but fell in love with an image, here’s some alternative display ideas:
1. Under a Desk Blotter – What a way to take a break from the agonies of work! Slip your print under a clear desk blotter and give yourself a visual reward for busting through all that paperwork! Rigid blotters work best, but if you’re concerned that questionable desk of yours might muck up the print, you can keep your artwork sealed in a clear bag for extra protection! (Clear bag link provided as an example, as you may not need 100, or do you…)
2. On the Ceiling – What? Who the heck looks up? You do if you’re laying down. Display above a bed or couch where you go to relax and want to soak in some beauty. Best to order a print mounted on a rigid backing rather than a frame (contact me to special order a rigid-mount print.) Mirror mounting clips work best to keep the print from falling and knocking you out of the best dream ever induced by said print. You can create an entire display with stick-on embellishments, such as stars, to surround the picture.
3. On a Table to Cover up Ugly Necessities – That antique, Victorian table with the lace doilies is also the only opportune spot for everyone’s charging cables. Solution: get a framed print or a rigid-backed or canvas print held up with a small display stand (they probably have gorgeous ones at your local art supply store, view my table setup for ideas.)
Now the ugly wires are blocked and you get to look at pretty. Also works to hide docking iPhone or Android phone speakers so that Mozart on Pandora can come out of a fairy scene instead of mucking up the ambiance with modern clash.
4. In a portfolio – Full color, glossy art books are gorgeous but can be expensive. Why not make your own? Get an art portfolio binder to collect your favorite prints. Open it up when you need to de-stress, or leave it open on a table when you have guests. Change to whatever page and print suits your mood, then put it away when you’re done.
5. In a changing display – While not necessarily an alternative to displaying on a wall, one great idea a customer shared was that she changes her wall art along with the seasons. When autumn comes around, she switches her summer display of art, decorative crafts, floral arrangements, etc., to one of warm, fiery colors. So multiple prints can occupy the same space on the wall, just in different times of the year.
Now that I’ve given you some ideas, why not get some art now?
